2011 has been a year of profound growth for Pactel International. The booming resource sector in PNG allowed us to capitalise on our strengths in this market by establishing a new hub in Port Moresby, providing connectivity to the most remote provinces of New Guinea. With the advent of bandwidth demanding-applications and bandwidth costs remaining high, 2011 was the year where WAN optimisation technologies became a critical factor in satellite communications. Pactel International saw this as an opportunity to add more value for our customers by embedding various bandwidth-efficiency technologies into our service offerings.
Pactel International has successfully concluded the 2011 series of satellite communication seminars this month. The key aim was to demonstrate industry-specific applications over satellite and discuss the strategies on how to optimise remote communications.
Pactel International has been appointed to design a solution that could provide high speed data services to and from the remote Simberi mine in Papua New Guinea. The new platform had to replace an existing, lower bandwidth communication system and had to be cost-effective, while being robust enough to withstand the extreme weather conditions and harsh environment of PNG.
Pactel International has been awarded a major contract for providing internet services to the Port Moresby campus of the Pacific Adventist University – a leading provider of tertiary education in PNG and the Pacific Islands. Pactel’s upgrade to the existing satellite link will enable the University to meet its expanding connectivity needs.
